Next walk 1st September starting at Bromley Cross – Meet station 12.00 Platform 1, for train to Bromley Cross, then 5 mile walk

Sunday 14th July City of Sanctuary supporters and members of the committee joined with the Bolton Station Partnership for a community walk at Borsdane Wood in Hindley. The Bolton Station Partnership event included free train travel tickets and a guided walk. The group were met by The Friends of Hindley Station who are RHS Gold award winning gardeners. Walkers enjoyed the unusual wood sculptures, raspberry picking and exploring the history of the local area, guided by Vernon, a local historian and train enthusiast. The day ended with a visit to the local pub whilst waiting for the train home to arrive.

Here’s an update on the many and varied activities taking place around Bolton station in the next few weeks. First of all, the Bolton Area Community Rail Partnership is now a full member of the Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACoRP). Our next step is to gain full accreditation from the Department for Transport. We are developing a 12-month Activity Plan and seeking funding for a Community Rail Officer to take various projects forward. The CRP covers the routes to Manchester, Preston, Wigan and Bromley Cross. A big focus will be on health and well being, promoting sustainable transport and encouraging community involvement at local stations not already ‘adopted’.
Bolton Station Community Development Partnership (the CDP) is part of the overall community rail partnership and has lots of things going on. Some great news very recently is that we’ve been shortlisted for three entries in the National Community Rail Awards being held this year in Telford on October 3rd.

Other things happening include:
Monday August 19th: opening of Bolton Documentary Photography Exhibition ‘Super Troupers’ in Platform Gallery (open 10.30 to 4.00 each day except Sunday) for 2 weeks

Saturday August 24th: Bolton Food and Drink Fringe Festival – volunteers needed! We have now got 16 stalls from a range of community groups and small businesses, offering a fabulous welcome to visitors to Bolton’s famous Food and Drink Festival/ If you can help, please be there (Platform 5 Community Room) for 08.15; stalls to staff, stallholders to assist, stuff to do

Sunday September 1st Bolton Station CDP Walk with City of Sanctuary. Meet station 12.00 Platform 1, for train to Bromley Cross, then 5 mile walk

Monday September 2nd (NOT the 5th as previously suggested) Trip to ride on Penistone Line Music Train – let me know if you’re interested; evening outing on the famous ‘music train’ with jazz and blues band Hokum

Friday September 6th (tbcf): Preview of ‘Railway Workers’ Art’ exhibition in Platform Gallery. Details to be confirmed, lots of interest in what we think is a world first. Exhibition opens Monday September 7th 10.30 to 4.00pm for 2 weeks.
